When does Hasbro Pulse charge for preorders?
By Britton Jewell · Last updated
Short answer: when your order is being prepared to ship. Hasbro Pulse authorizes your card when you preorder, that hold falls off in a few days, and the real charge comes during fulfillment, once the stock reaches Pulse's warehouse. You pay the price on your order confirmation even if Hasbro raises the price later. You can cancel until the order is released for shipping. Made To Order items and HasLabs have their own cancel rules, covered below.

What happens to your card, step by step
| When | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| The day you preorder | An authorization to check the card is valid and has funds. It's a hold, not a charge. PayPal orders skip this step. |
| A few days later | The hold drops off. How fast depends on your card issuer; Pulse can't release it early. |
| Months of waiting | Nothing on your card. The order sits in your account with an estimated ship date. |
| Stock reaches Pulse's warehouse | The actual charge, during fulfillment. A shipping email follows. Each preorder in an order is charged and shipped on its own. |
Sources: Pulse's Pre-Order page says the authorization "will disappear in a matter of days" and that preorders "will be fully charged during the fulfillment process." Its split shipments page says fulfillment starts "once the inventory reaches our warehouse," and that Pulse can't hold items to ship together. Its pending charge page says the authorization is for the full order amount and doesn't apply to PayPal.
Example: you preorder a $25 figure in October with an estimated ship date in March. You'll see a $25 pending charge for a few days in October, then nothing until March, when the charge posts as Pulse packs the order. If you preordered three figures with three different dates, expect three separate charges and three boxes.
That short hold is different from Barnes & Noble, which authorizes the full amount at order and again when stock arrives (when Barnes & Noble charges for preorders).
Your price is locked when you order
When Hasbro raised prices in 2025, its help center said "the price you authorized for a pre-order or a HASLAB will not change, even if prices fluctuate in the future" (Keeping You Informed). A newer page answers the exact worry: if the product page now shows a higher price, "your preorder will be charged at the price shown on your original order confirmation" (Pulse's price change page).
Two limits. Pulse doesn't price-match other stores (price match page). And its help pages only talk about the price going up; we found nothing saying Pulse lowers your price if the item goes on sale. Big Bad Toy Store does (see when BBTS charges for preorders). Compare Target, which charges whatever the price is on the day it ships (when Target charges for preorders). If tariffs or cost increases are pushing prices up on a line you collect, a Pulse preorder locks in today's price (see how tariffs affect toy prices).
If the ship date changes
Pulse says it "will send an email notification in advance of charging your credit card if the expected delivery date shifts by more than 30 days" (ship date page). Dates can move earlier too, so a charge can land sooner than you planned. Once a date is close, Pulse aims to ship preorders "within three business days of the estimated ship date" (shipping options).
If you have a UPS or FedEx account, you may get a "label created" alert before Pulse ships. Pulse says it's "not uncommon" for 5 or more business days to pass between the label and the actual shipment (label page). Cancelling a Hasbro Pulse preorder
Go to Order History, pick the order, choose View Details, and look for Cancel this item (or Cancel Order / Cancel Open Items). That option "is removed once the order is released for shipment preparation," and after that you can't cancel (Pulse's cancel page). A few rules to know:
- Cancellations are final. A cancelled item "cannot be restored," so you'd have to order it again, if it's still available.
- There's no fee, and no confirmation email. The order just shows "Cancelled" in your history.
- In-stock items only have a 60-minute cancel window after checkout.
- Guest checkout? You'll need to create an account with the same email, or contact Pulse, to cancel.
You can also change the card on a preorder before it's charged: open the order, choose Change this Payment Method, and tick the box at the bottom if you want the new card on all pending orders (payment method page). Orders can't be combined and you can't add items to one.
Made To Order items
Made To Order is Pulse selling a figure for a set window, then producing what was ordered and shipping it months later. The current one is the Marvel Legends Bolivar Trask & Bastion Nimrod set from X-Men '97: $74.99, limit 5 per customer, orders close November 20, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, and the listing gives an estimated ship date of about November 1, 2027.
The cancel rule is looser than a regular preorder. You can cancel in your account any time during the window, and for 15 days after it closes by contacting Pulse Customer Service (Made To Order cancel page). After that, you're in. Pulse's help pages don't give a separate charge rule for Made To Order, so expect the normal preorder pattern: a short hold now and the charge when it ships, about a year later.
HasLab crowdfunding
HasLab works differently. You're charged only if the campaign hits its goal by the deadline. When you back it, the pre-authorization can last up to seven days (HasLab charge page). Your price is locked like any preorder. You can cancel any time before the campaign ends, then within 15 days after by contacting customer service. HasLabs carry a shipping surcharge at checkout that Premium members don't pay (shipping options).
Payment, shipping and Premium
Pulse takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and PayPal. It doesn't take Apple Pay, Google Pay or prepaid debit cards on preorders, and it can't split a payment across two cards (payment methods). Pulse doesn't sell gift cards.
Shipping: product listings currently say "Delivery is free for Hasbro Pulse Premium or orders over $75 (excluding HasLabs)." Pulse's shipping help page still lists $7.99 standard shipping for non-members, so check the shipping line at checkout.
Hasbro Pulse Premium is $50 a year plus tax (Premium cost) and gets you free standard shipping, member-only sale pricing, and early access to convention exclusives and back-in-stock drops (perks page). Pulse posts back-in-stock items "most Fridays" (restock page); for how restocks work in general, see will it be restocked or reprinted?
Purchase limits and Imperfect Packaging
Each listing shows a per-customer limit. Pulse says the limit is "strictly enforced" and it will cancel orders that get around it with multiple accounts (purchase limits). Putting an item in your cart doesn't hold it, either.
Pulse also sells Imperfect Packaging items: new, unopened figures marked down because the box has scratches, creases, dents, small tears or scuffs (what is Imperfect Packaging). They're final sale, though Pulse will help if the figure inside is broken. If you're keeping it sealed as a collectible, read does a damaged box lower the value? first. Regular unopened items can be returned within 30 days, but only with a return authorization from Pulse first (return policy).
Quick answers
Does Hasbro Pulse charge for preorders right away?
No. Hasbro Pulse authorizes your card when you order to check that it's valid and has funds. That authorization drops off in a few days, depending on your card issuer. You're charged when the order is being prepared to ship.
Will Hasbro Pulse charge me more if the price goes up?
No. Hasbro Pulse says preorders are charged at the price on your original order confirmation, even if the price on the product page goes up later. New prices only apply to new orders.
Can I cancel a Hasbro Pulse preorder?
Yes, while the Cancel this item option shows in your order details. It goes away once the order is released for shipment preparation. Cancellations are final, there's no fee, and a cancelled item can't be put back on the order.
What happens if my Hasbro Pulse ship date changes?
Hasbro Pulse says it emails you before charging your card if the expected delivery date moves by more than 30 days. It doesn't say it emails for smaller changes, so check the estimated date in your order details.
Can I cancel a Hasbro Pulse Made To Order item?
Yes. You can cancel in your account any time during the preorder window. After the window closes you have 15 days to cancel by contacting Pulse Customer Service. After that, the order stands.
Can I use Apple Pay on a Hasbro Pulse preorder?
No. Hasbro Pulse takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and PayPal. It says it can't accept Apple Pay, Google Pay or prepaid debit cards for preorders or crowdfunded projects.
