Is Mattel Rewards worth it?
By Britton Jewell · Last updated
Short answer: it's free, so if you buy from Mattel Creations at all, join before your next order. It pays back 2% to 5% in store credit depending on how much you spend. The catches: many drops and pre-sales earn no points, points expire 120 days after you earn them, and orders you placed before joining don't count.

What each tier pays back
| Tier | Spend in your membership year | Points per $1 | Back in credit | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Insider | Free to join | 1 | 2% | |
| Fan | $100 to $299 | 1.5 | 3% | $5 birthday credit |
| Superfan | $300 to $999 | 2 | 4% | $7.50 birthday credit, double-points days twice a year, sweepstakes |
| Legend | $1,000 or more | 2.5 | 5% | $10 birthday credit, double-points days four times a year, sweepstakes |
Points are worth 50 to the dollar, so 1 point per $1 is 2% back. You move up a tier as soon as the order that crosses the line posts, and you keep that tier for 12 months from the upgrade. Spend counts after discounts, and returns and cancellations come off it.
Example: you spend $250 a year on Mattel Creations, all on items that earn points. The first $100 earns 100 points as an Insider, then you're a Fan and the next $150 earns 225 points. That's 325 points, or $6.50 in credit, plus a $5 birthday credit and the one-time bonuses below. Spend the points within 120 days or they're gone.
What doesn't earn points
- Many drops and pre-sales. Mattel's terms say "Select Launch Products," including "timed drops, pre-sales, or allocation-based releases," earn nothing unless the product page or Mattel's announcement says they do. Mattel can also block paying for them with points.
- Shipping, tax, gift cards and paid club fees.
- Purchases for resale or on a corporate card.
- Anything you bought before you enrolled, or while you weren't signed in.
That first one hits collectors hardest. The items people line up for on Mattel Creations, like limited-edition drops, are the ones least likely to earn points. For how Mattel charges on those, see when Mattel Creations charges for preorders.
Using your points
- Points post about 3 to 5 days after you order.
- They expire 120 days after you earn them. Birthday credit expires after 30 days.
- You can use up to 5,000 points ($100 in credit) per order, on the item price only, not shipping or tax.
- If an order is cancelled before it ships, you lose its points. If you already spent them, your balance goes negative.
The 120-day expiry is the one to watch. If you buy from Mattel Creations only a few times a year, points from one order may expire before your next one.
Other ways to earn
Mattel gives one-time points for creating an account (50), your first order (100), your second order (150), signing up for texts (100) and adding your birthday (50). Referring a friend gets them $5 off a first order of $25 or more and gets you $5 once they buy, up to five referrals a year.
Mattel Rewards vs. the paid clubs
Mattel Rewards is free and separate from Mattel's paid memberships, like Hot Wheels Red Line Club, Club 59, Club Grayskull and Fang Club. A club membership doesn't enroll you in Rewards, doesn't count toward your tier, and its fee doesn't earn points. If you're in a club, you have to join Rewards separately. It's open to U.S. residents 18 and older.
Who should join
- Anyone who buys regular, in-stock items from Mattel Creations. It's free and there's nothing to lose.
- People who mostly buy drops and limited editions will earn less than the tier chart suggests.
- Big spenders get the most: at $1,000 a year you earn 5% back plus double-points days.
Compare Hasbro's store, which charges $50 a year for its program instead of paying points back (see is Hasbro Pulse Premium worth it?).
Quick answers
Is Mattel Rewards worth it?
It's free, so if you buy from Mattel Creations at all, it's worth joining. It pays back 2% to 5% in credit depending on your tier, but many drops and pre-sales don't earn points, and points expire 120 days after you earn them.
How much are Mattel Rewards points worth?
50 points equal $1 in Reward Credit. You earn 1 to 2.5 points per dollar depending on your tier, so 2% to 5% back, and you can use up to $100 in credit per order.
Do Mattel Creations preorders and drops earn Mattel Rewards points?
Often not. Mattel's terms say limited-edition, launch and pre-sale products, including timed drops and allocation-based releases, don't earn points unless the product page says they do. Mattel can also block using points on them.
Is Mattel Rewards the same as Red Line Club?
No. Mattel Rewards is free and separate from the paid clubs like Hot Wheels Red Line Club, Club 59, Club Grayskull and Fang Club. A club membership doesn't enroll you in Rewards, and club fees don't earn points.
