What does "exclusive" mean on an action figure?
By Britton Jewell · Last updated . Store and listing examples checked .
Short answer: "exclusive" tells you where a figure was first sold, not how rare or valuable it is. It can mean one store (Target, Walmart, Amazon), the maker's own store (Hasbro Pulse, Mattel Creations), a group of specialty stores (Hasbro's Fan Channel), a convention, or a distributor's catalog (AE or PX). Some exclusives are later sold at other stores or reissued, and some sit in stock or go on sale.

The kinds of exclusive at a glance
| Label | Where it's sold | Example |
|---|---|---|

| Maker's store exclusive | The maker's own shop: Hasbro Pulse or Mattel Creations | Mattel's WWE Coliseum Collection two-pack, a Mattel Creations exclusive |
| Fan Channel exclusive | Hasbro's specialty collector stores, usually plus Hasbro Pulse and Amazon | Hasbro collector figures and reissues |
| Specialty-store exclusive | One collector store, such as Entertainment Earth or BigBadToyStore (BBTS) | BBTS-only figures from Super7, Four Horsemen and others |
| Convention or event exclusive | A show such as San Diego Comic-Con or Hasbro Pulse Con, or a store event such as Walmart Collector Con | Mattel's transparent John Cena, a Walmart Collector Con exclusive (2025) |
| Distributor exclusive (AE, PX) | Many shops that order from one distributor's catalog | Hiya Toys figures tagged "AE Exclusive" or "PREVIEWS Exclusive" |
| HasLab | Hasbro Pulse, made only if enough fans back it | Hasbro's crowdfunded collector projects |
Store exclusives: Target, Walmart, Amazon and others
A store exclusive is made for one retail chain. McFarlane confirmed its DC Multiverse New 52 Superman would be "released as a Target store exclusive here in the United States." ToyNewsI, May 24, 2025. GameStop sells its own, such as a McFarlane DC Multiverse Batman vs. Ra's al Ghul Gold Label set labeled a GameStop exclusive. GameStop's listing. Amazon, Walgreens and Ringside Collectibles (for WWE) also get exclusives.
Some store exclusives launch at an online event instead of on shelves. Walmart Collector Con is Walmart's own collector sale: Mattel's WWE Elite transparent John Cena was "a Walmart Exclusive for the upcoming Walmart Collector Con," at $22.99. Bleeding Cool, March 11, 2025.
What is a Fan Channel exclusive?
Fan Channel is Hasbro's term for specialty collector stores, as opposed to mass retailers like Walmart and Target. A Fan Channel exclusive is exclusive to that type of store, not to one store, so several shops carry it at the same time. That's why the name confuses people.
Hasbro lists its own store separately. For its Ultimate Grogu animatronic, Hasbro said it was "available for pre-order now on Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, and Fan Channel retailers." Hasbro's announcement. So a Fan Channel figure is usually also on Hasbro Pulse and Amazon, but a Hasbro Pulse exclusive is sold only on Pulse. Hasbro doesn't publish a list of which stores count as Fan Channel retailers.
Specialty-store exclusives: Entertainment Earth and BBTS
Collector stores commission their own versions. Entertainment Earth calls its exclusives "Entertainment Earth-only" items and says each is "a limited production collectible." Entertainment Earth's exclusives page. BigBadToyStore had about 250 BBTS Exclusives listed on October 11, 2026, from makers such as Super7, Four Horsemen and Fresh Monkey Fiction. BBTS's exclusives search.
What do AE and PX mean?
Some labels name a distributor's catalog, not a store. These are the most confusing, because the figure can turn up at many shops that all call it "exclusive."
- AE Exclusive means Alliance Entertainment, a distributor. Its own site describes an "AE Exclusives" selection that it distributes through its retail partners and sells on its own web stores. Alliance Entertainment's pop culture page.
- PX means PREVIEWS Exclusive, from the Previews catalog that comic and specialty shops ordered from. Entertainment Earth still lists a Hiya Toys "Previews Exclusive" category. Entertainment Earth's Hiya Toys Previews Exclusive listing.
Hiya Toys shows why this gets confusing. Its line names, such as Exquisite Mini (1:18 scale) and Exquisite Basic, describe the size and series, not where it's sold. An exclusive tag such as AE or PX is added on top, so one figure can be both an Exquisite Mini and a PREVIEWS Exclusive. Read the line name and the exclusive tag separately.
What is HasLab?
HasLab is Hasbro's crowdfunding program on Hasbro Pulse. In Hasbro's words: "if we reach the minimum number (or more!) of backers by our given deadline, we'll head to production." Hasbro Pulse's HasLab help page. If a project doesn't reach its minimum, it isn't made.
Does an exclusive stay exclusive?
Not always. In our experience, a figure sometimes starts as one store's exclusive and is later sold at other stores, and its price can come down as it gets easier to buy. It doesn't happen to every exclusive, and nobody announces it ahead of time, but it does happen.
Two examples: Walmart's transparent John Cena was later listed at Entertainment Earth as the WWE Elite Collection Transparent John Cena Collector's Edition, and Target's New 52 Superman Gold Label was later listed there at $24.99 as the DC Multiverse Superman New 52 Gold Label Exclusive. Both were sold out when we checked on October 11, 2026. Both listings still say "Exclusive" in the name, so the word on a box or listing tells you how a figure launched, not where it's sold now.
Exclusives can also be reissued. Retro Venom, a 2021 Hasbro Pulse Con exclusive, was reissued in 2026, and BBTS has sold reissues of its own exclusives, such as a Cyborg Santa BBTS Exclusive reissue. See do action figures get restocked?
Are exclusive action figures worth more?
Sometimes. An exclusive starts with fewer places to buy it, so it can sell out faster than a figure sold everywhere. But its value still comes down to how many were made and how many people want it, the same as any figure. See why some action figures sell out and others don't.
Plenty of exclusives don't sell out. On October 11, 2026, several BBTS Exclusives were in stock, and one, a McFarlane Flashpoint Batman (Thomas Wayne) BBTS Exclusive, was on sale for $25.49. A later wider release or a reissue can also bring prices down. Before paying extra for an exclusive, check recent sold prices for that exact figure and whether it's been reissued or sold at other stores. Before you buy an exclusive
- Read the label. Is it one store, the maker's store, the Fan Channel, a convention or a distributor's catalog?
- Separate the line name from the exclusive tag. A series name like Exquisite Mini or Gold Label isn't an exclusive by itself.
- Check where it's sold now. Search the figure's full name at a few stores. It may be in stock somewhere other than the store on the sticker.
- Check for a reissue. A new version or a reissue can change what the original is worth.
- Compare sold prices, not asking prices, before paying more than retail.
Quick answers
What is a Fan Channel exclusive?
A Hasbro figure sold through specialty collector stores instead of mass retailers like Walmart and Target. It's exclusive to a type of store, not one store, so several shops carry it at once. Hasbro usually also sells it on Hasbro Pulse and Amazon, and lists those separately from Fan Channel retailers.
Is a Hasbro Pulse exclusive the same as a Fan Channel exclusive?
No. A Hasbro Pulse exclusive is sold only on Hasbro's own store. Hasbro names Hasbro Pulse separately from Fan Channel retailers, though many Fan Channel figures are also sold on Pulse.
What does AE Exclusive mean?
AE stands for Alliance Entertainment, a distributor that runs an AE Exclusives program. An AE Exclusive is sold through the shops that order from that distributor and its own web stores, not through a single retailer.
What does PX mean on an action figure?
PX stands for PREVIEWS Exclusive, from the Previews catalog that comic and specialty shops ordered from. Like AE, it's a catalog program sold through many shops, not one store.
Can an exclusive be sold at other stores later?
Yes, it happens. Walmart's transparent John Cena and Target's New 52 Superman were both later listed at Entertainment Earth. Some exclusives are also reissued. Don't count on it for any particular figure.
Are exclusive action figures worth more?

What is HasLab?
Hasbro's crowdfunding program on Hasbro Pulse. Fans back a project, and Hasbro makes it only if it reaches the minimum number of backers by the deadline.
