Is GameStop Pro worth it?
By Britton Jewell · Last updated
Short answer: use six of the $5 monthly coupons and Pro has paid for itself. The 5% discount is smaller than it sounds because new games aren't on the list. It covers used games, digital games, collectibles, trading cards and clearance. The perk that can pay for the year in one trip isn't in the terms at all: buy 2 get 1 free sales on used games, which have been Pro-only in 2026.
Who wrote this: Britton Jewell, a collectibles reseller who runs BuyHoldCollect. Britton has Pro, mostly for the discount on games he buys for himself, and has used the buy 2 get 1 free used game sales. We have no affiliate deal with GameStop. The perks and rules below come from GameStop's own Pro page and Pro terms, effective October 1, 2026 (checked ). More about us.
What you get for $29.99
- 5% extra off pre-owned games, consoles and accessories, digital games and currencies, collectibles, trading cards, clearance and GameStop's own brands.
- A $5 coupon each month for one item.
- 10% extra cash or store credit on trade-ins. Graded cards get 5% extra on trade-ins and 5% off when you buy them.
- Free shipping on orders of $54 or more, with exclusions (below).
- Double purchase limits on most trading card products.
- Pro-only deals and drops, plus four Pro Weeks a year.
Most articles about Pro still say $25. GameStop's page and terms now say $29.99. Points are gone too: GameStop phased them out on July 15, 2026, and a membership bought or renewed after that date doesn't earn any. Only GameStop Pro credit card holders still earn points.
What the 5% covers, and what it doesn't
| Item | 5% off? |
|---|---|
| Pre-owned games, consoles, accessories | Yes |
| Digital games, currencies, subscriptions, digital preorders | Yes |
| Action figures, statues, toys, board games, apparel | Yes |
| Trading cards and graded collectibles | Yes |
| Clearance | Yes |
| New physical games | No |
| New consoles | No |
| Gift cards | No |
The 5% doesn't stack. An item that fits two categories still gets 5%, and the terms say the discount can't be combined with coupons. It comes off after other sale prices, so a clearance price drops another 5%.
The $5 monthly coupon is where new games come in. It works on one eligible item, games included, and you can use one a month. It shows up in your account in the first week of the month and expires on the last day. It won't work on preorders, digital games, DLC, gift cards or the Pro fee, and it can't be combined with other promotions. You don't get one the month you join, so the first year has 11.
The math
Start with the coupons. Each one is $5, so six of them cover the fee. If you only count the 5%:
| Used, digital or collectible spending in a year | 5% back | Versus $29.99 |
|---|---|---|
| $200 | $10 | You lose $19.99 |
| $400 | $20 | You lose $9.99 |
| $600 | $30 | About even |
| $1,000 | $50 | You save $20.01 |
In practice you'd use both. Someone who uses eight coupons ($40) and spends $300 on used games ($15) gets $55 back on a $29.99 fee. Taxes on the fee are extra.
Buy 2 get 1 free on used games
This deal isn't in the Pro terms. GameStop runs it as a promotion from time to time. Put three eligible used games in your cart and the cheapest one is free. Preorders, clearance and digital games don't count.
It used to be open to everyone at times. In 2026 every run we found was Pro-only: February (GamingHQ), a Pro Week in May (Slickdeals) and the Fourth of July (Game Rant). Game Rant's example prices were Star Fox at $54.99, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at $44.99 and Monster Hunter Wilds at $29.99. Buy those three and the $29.99 game is free, which is the price of the membership. GameStop doesn't announce these in advance, so don't count on a specific month.
For collectors
The 5% covers action figures, statues and trading cards, so a GameStop exclusive figure or a Pokémon product gets it. The double purchase limit on most trading card products is the bigger perk if you chase new Pokémon sets. For why those sell out, see why is everything sold out?
Two catches. Free shipping doesn't apply to trading cards, graded collectibles, consoles or preorders, and those don't count toward the $54. And neither the 5% nor the coupon works on a physical preorder. For how GameStop charges for preorders, see when GameStop charges for preorders.
The terms also say people may not use the program "for profit." That line covers anyone buying with Pro to resell.
Renewing, cancelling and refunds
- Auto-renew is opt-in. If you don't renew, your account drops back to a free GameStop account.
- You get a full refund within two days of joining, but only if you haven't used any Pro benefit.
- After that you can cancel any time through Guest Care by mail, email or phone, without a refund.
Who it's for
- Worth it: you shop at GameStop most months, buy used games, or trade games in. The coupons and the trade-in bonus add up fastest.
- Probably not: you mostly buy new games a few times a year. You'd only use a few coupons, and the 5% doesn't touch new games.
- In between: join during a buy 2 get 1 free sale if you were going to buy three used games anyway. The free game alone can cover the fee.

Quick answers
Is GameStop Pro worth it?
If you use six of the $5 monthly coupons, Pro has paid for itself. The 5% discount only covers used games, digital games, collectibles, trading cards and clearance, so on its own you'd need about $600 a year of those to cover the $29.99 fee. The Pro-only buy 2 get 1 free sales on used games can cover it in one trip.
How much is GameStop Pro?
$29.99 a year, per GameStop's Pro page and terms (effective October 1, 2026). Many articles still list the older $25 price.
Does the GameStop Pro discount work on new games?
No. The 5% covers pre-owned games and digital games, not new physical games. The $5 monthly coupon can go on one new game a month, but it can't be used on preorders.
Is GameStop buy 2 get 1 free only for Pro members?
In 2026, yes. The used-game sales in February, May and July were limited to Pro members. The cheapest of the three games is free, and preorders, clearance and digital games don't count.
Does GameStop Pro still earn points?
No. GameStop ended points as a Pro benefit on July 15, 2026. Memberships bought or renewed after that don't earn points. GameStop Pro credit card holders still do.
Can I get a refund on GameStop Pro?
Only within two days of joining, and only if you haven't used any Pro benefit. After that you can cancel through Guest Care, but you won't get the fee back.
